Lunar landscapes and other necessary autofictions: Voice, image and body lab

Van maandag 24 januari t.e.m. vrijdag 28 januari 2022 presenteren de onderzoekers van het RITCS School of Arts hun artistiek en theoretisch onderzoek tijdens Future Narratives.

NL: In 2019 bereikte China voor het eerst de andere kant van de maan. Daarvandaan zouden we, als we een radiotelescoop met een lage frequentie zouden plaatsen, de oorsprong van ons heelal duidelijker kunnen zien. Vijftig jaar nadat een man voor het eerst op de maan landde, staat onze satelliet opnieuw in de belangstelling van alle ruimtevaartorganisaties en sommigen noemen hem al het achtste continent.

Maar vele duizenden jaren lang was de maan een onbereikbare plaats. Sinds het begin van de mensheid maakte de maan deel uit van de mythen en legenden van onze voorouders. Vaak werd de maan in verband gebracht met het meten van de tijd en met de menstruatie van de vrouw en dus met vruchtbaarheid. Ze was ook het onderwerp van studies over astronomie.

Vanessa del Campo verweeft de beelden van de ruimteverkenning met uiteenlopende tradities en met opgenomen beelden van haar eigen leven . Ze stelt een reflectie voor over films die vanuit de ‘eerste persoon’ vertrekken. Een reflectie ook over de noodzaak van autofictie en de cinema van het reële. In dit laboratorium gaat Vanessa Del Campo op zoek naar een voice-over die voortkomt uit de beelden en ermee in dialoog gaat. De stem wil een toon, een volume en een ritme vinden, maar ook een lichaam.

Fifty years after a man first landed on the moon, our satellite is once again in the spotlight of all space agencies and some already call it the eighth continent.

But for thousands and thousands of years, the moon was an unreachable place. Since the beginning of mankind, the moon was part of the myths and legends of our ancestors. Often, the moon was associated with the measurement of time and with women's menstruation and, therefore, with fertility. It was also the subject of astronomical study.

Interweaving the images of space exploration with different traditions and recorded images of her own life, Vanessa del Campo proposes a reflection on first person cinema. On the necessity of autofiction and the cinema of the real. In this laboratory, in search of a voice over that emerges from the images and dialogues with them, this voice will want to find a tone, a volume and a rhythm, but also a body.
