RITCS ARTS AND POLITICS SYMPOSIUM 2021 I D1

Het vijfde RITCS Arts & Politics Symposium vindt grotendeels online plaats op 20-21-22 december 2021, telkens van 13u-17u30. Tijdens dit jaarlijks symposium krijgen de masterstudenten van het RITCS de gelegenheid een presentatie te verzorgen in het kader van het onderzoek binnen één van de vier reflectie-werkcolleges die ze hebben gekozen: "Politiek: onderzoek" (Dieter Lesage), "Cultuur: onderzoek" (Geert Opsomer), "Beeldende kunst: onderzoek" (Saddie Choua) en "Filosofie: onderzoek" (Lieven De Cauter).

Op maandag 20 december 2021 van 13u-16u zullen de studenten van het werkcollege "Politiek: onderzoek" (titularis: Dieter Lesage) online een aantal presentaties verzorgen (in het Nederlands of het Engels) rond vragen met betrekking tot de (representatieve) democratie. Zijn "de velen", "the many", vandaag het subject bij uitstek van de contestatie en zijn haar bijeenkomsten - of het nu gaat om de Occupy Movement en haar bezetting van Zuccotti Park in New York, of de Arabische Lente en haar manifestaties op Tahrir Square in Caïro - de plekken waar een nieuwe wereld vorm krijgt? Zijn deze assemblies een radicaal alternatief voor de instellingen van de representatieve democratie? Of moeten deze instellingen vooral nog representatiever worden? Ten gronde gaat het daarbij om de vraag of het systeem van de representatieve democratie zoals wij dat vandaag kennen kan of moet worden vervangen door een ander systeem dat democratischer zou zijn.

Elke namiddag van het driedaags symposium wordt van 16u30-17u30 afgesloten met een reeks online presentaties rond "De psychotische politiek van samenweringstheorieën" door studenten van het werkcollege "Filosofie: onderzoek" (titularis: Lieven De Cauter). De wereld barst van complottheorieën. Waarom? Complexe kwestie. Niet alleen omdat ze gretig verspreid worden door perfide instanties en mensen gevangen zitten in hun informatiebubbel die aangestuurd wordt door de feedbackloop van algoritmes, maar ook en vooral omdat mensen de wereld zoals hij is niet meer willen aanvaarden, en dus een alternatieve waan verkiezen: De klimaatverandering is dan een fictie, een hysterie, die door de klimaatkerk wordt verspreid om een klimaatdictatuur te installeren. Migratie zou een doelbewuste 'omvolking' door 'cultuurmarxisten' zijn om de westerse, christelijke cultuur te vernietigen. Deze hallucinatie van het complot kan tot terreurdaden leiden: Anders Berhring Breivik, Brendon Tarrant, Jürgen Conings. De Coronapandemie is een griepje dat door Bill Gates misbruikt wordt om ons microchips te laten inspuiten. Enzoverder enzovoort. En, u wist het nog niet maar …de aarde is plat. De verwerping van de gemeenschappelijke wereld noemde Bruno Latour, een nieuwe politieke attractor: 'hors-sol', weg van de wereld. De 'verwerping' van de werkelijkheid was voor Freud de definitie van psychose, tegenover neurose die gebaseerd is op 'verdringing'. Tijd om ons te buigen over de raadsels van de psychotische politiek. De studenten belichten in zeer diverse presentaties allerlei cases en aspecten van samenzweringstheorieën. Niet te missen.

The fifth RITCS Arts and Politics Symposium will largely take place online on 20-21-22 December 2021, from 13.00 until 17.30. RITCS master students will have the opportunity to deliver a series of presentations (in Dutch or in English) in the framework of a variety of research topics that have been dealt with in one of four master seminars: "Politics: research" (Dieter Lesage), "Culture: Research" (Geert Opsomer), "Fine Arts: Research" (Saddie Choua) and "Philosophy: Research" (Lieven De Cauter).

On Monday 20 December 2021 from 13:00 until 16:00 students of the seminar "Politics: research" (Dieter Lesage) will deliver a series of online presentations (in Dutch or in English) on questions pertaining to the issue of "representative democracy". Are "the many" today the subject par excellence of contestation and are their assemblies - whether the Occupy Movement and its occupations of Zuccotti Park in New York, or the Arab Spring and its manifestations on Tahrir Square in Caïro, or the protests of Black Lives Matter - the places where a new world gets shape? Are these assemblies a radical alternative for the institutions of representative democracy? Or do these institutions just have to become more representative? Fundamentally, the question is whether the system of representative democracy could or should be replaced or not by another system that would be more democratic.

From 16:30 until 17:30, every afternoon session of the symposium will present a series of online presentations on "The psychotic politics of conspiracy theories" by students of the seminar "Philosophy: research" (Lieven De Cauter). The world is full of conspiracy theories. Why? Big question. Not only because they are eagerly spread by perfidious agencies and people are trapped in their information bubble controlled by feedback loops of algorithms, but also and particularly because people no longer want to accept the world as it is, and so prefer an alternative delusion. Climate change is a hoax, a fiction, a hysteria, spread by the ‘climate church’ to install a ‘climate dictatorship’. Migration is a deliberate 'replacement' by 'cultural Marxists' to destroy Western Christian culture. This hallucination can lead to acts of terror: Anders Berhring Breivik, Brendon Tarrant, Jürgen Conings. The Corona pandemic is a flu Bill Gates is using to have us injected with microchips. And so on and so forth. And, you did not know it yet but ...the earth is flat. The rejection of the common world is what Bruno Latour called a new political attractor: 'hors-sol', away from the world. The 'rejection' of reality was for Freud the defining process of psychosis, as opposed to neurosis based on 'repression'. Time to address the riddles of psychotic politics. Students will in very diverse presentations highlight several cases and elements of conspiracy theories. Don’t miss it!
