Publieke verdediging van het Doctoraat in de Kunsten: Truth in Translation: The Art of Directing aan RITCS School of Arts en de Vrije Universiteit Brussel met de steun van het Kunstenplatform Brussel.
Sanja Mitrović is een theaterregisseur en performer uit voormalig Joegoslavië, die al sinds geruime tijd in Brussel woont en werkt. Zij is ook verbonden aan de opleiding Drama van het RITCS. In haar Doctoraat in de Kunsten Truth in Translation: The Art of Directing observeert Mitrović nauwgezet de creatieve processen waarmee de realiteit in fictie verandert, de meest uiteenlopende manieren waarop dat gebeurt én het artistieke potentieel ervan. Mitrović analyseert een aantal van haar eerdere producties, evenals nieuw werk dat is gemaakt als onderdeel van het PhD-traject. Abstract PhD Research Truth in Translation: The Art of Directing conducted by Sanja Mitrović between 2018 and 2023 at the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound (RITCS, Brussels) and Vrije Universiteit (VUB, Brussels), with the support of the Brussels Arts Platform
Sanja Mitrović is a theatre director and performer from Former Yugoslavia, currently based in Brussels. She teaches at the Drama Department of RITCS. In her PhD thesis titled Truth in Translation: The Art of Directing Mitrović conducts a close observation of the creative processes through which reality transforms into fiction, the myriad points at which such translations take place, and their artistic potential. Analysing a number of her previous productions, as well as new works created as part of the PhD trajectory, Mitrović reflects on over the twenty years of artistic practice, focusing specifically on the interpretation of reality through documentary, aesthetics and choreographic means. By interweaving a personal narrative, historical context and practical experience, Truth in Translation: The Art of Directing offers both a retrospective view and a current assessment of subjective affinities, ideas and considerations which inform Mitrović’s idiosyncratic methodology. The artistic part of the PhD includes the following productions: Danke Deutschland – Cảm ơn nước Đức (2019), with the Vietnamese immigrant community in Germany and the ensemble of Schaubühne Berlin; Working Songs No.1 (2021), in collaboration with Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Demeter Calling(2021), co-produced by Flemish Royal National Theatre (KVS); and Unter Grund (2023), for Schauspiel Dortmund.
