Please Release Me: Bodies, Bodies, Bodies (2022) - Halina Reijn + voorfilm 'Moi Non Plus' - Olivier De Vos
NL: Halina Reijns tweede langspeelfilm achter de camera is tevens haar eerste Amerikaanse regieproject. Vanuit haar fascinatie voor subculturen, en dan vooral voor jongerencultuur, zet Reijn met “BODIES, BODIES, BODIES” een bloederig komische whodunit neer, geïnspireerd door de erfenis van slashers zoals de originele “SCREAM”.
In BODIES BODIES BODIES komt een groep rijke twintigers samen in een afgelegen villa met als doel er de orkaan die buiten woedt, uit te zitten. Hun ‘hurricane party’ wordt al snel overspoeld door drank, drugs en onderdrukte frustraties. We ontmoeten kersvers koppel Sophie en Bee onderweg naar de villa van Sophie’s beste vriend, David. Present zijn ook Davids aanstellerige vriendin Emma, de competitieve Jordan, de praatgrage podcaster Alice (gespeeld door PLEASE RELEASE ME-favoriet Rachel Sennott van “SHIVA BABY”), en Alices 40-jarige vriend Greg. Om de spanning en rivaliteit binnen de groep te ontmijnen, besluiten ze het moordmysteriespel ‘Bodies, Bodies, Bodies’ te spelen. Allemaal fun and games, totdat er ook echt lijken uit de kast vallen…
De personages – én hun onsympathieke kantjes als Gen Z’ers uit het digitale TikTok/sociale media tijdperk – worden prefect belichaamd door een sterke ensemblecast van talenten zoals Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Rachel Sennott en Pete Davidson. Met de hulp van cinematograaf Jasper Wolf (bekend van o.a. MONOS, INSTINCT) creëert Reijn binnen de muren van de villa een energetische Cluedo slasher met een spannende uitwisseling tussen wat de camera toont én verbergt. Onze PLEASE RELEASE ME van maart.
De screening van Bodies Bodies Bodies wordt voorafgegaan door de vertoning van de kortfilm 'Moi Non Plus' van Olivier De Vos. Deze voorfilm werd geselecteerd door kortfilm.be en gaat over een hechte vriendschap tussen twee queer jongeren die onder spanning komt te staan door blind narcisme.
EN: Halina Reijn's second full-length film behind the camera is also her first American directing project. From her fascination for subcultures, especially for youth culture, Reijn creates a bloody, comedic whodunit. BODIES BODIES BODIES was inspired by the legacy of slashers such as the original SCREAM.
In BODIES BODIES BODIES, a group of wealthy twenty-somethings gather in a remote villa with the aim of weathering the hurricane raging outside. Their 'hurricane party' is soon overrun by booze, drugs and suppressed frustrations. We meet new couple Sophie and Bee on their way to the villa of Sophie's best friend, David. Also present are David's affectionate girlfriend Emma, the competitive Jordan, chatty podcaster Alice (played by PLEASE RELEASE ME favorite Rachel Sennott from SHIVA BABY), and Alice's 40-year-old boyfriend Greg. To defuse the tension and rivalry within the group, they decide to play the murder mystery game 'Bodies Bodies Bodies'. All fun and games, until real corpses fall out of the closet…
The characters – and their unsympathetic sides as Gen Zers from the digital TikTok/social media era – are perfectly embodied by a strong ensemble cast of talents such as Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Rachel Sennott and Pete Davidson. With the help of cinematographer Jasper Wolf (known from MONOS, INSTINCT, among others), Reijn creates an energetic Cluedo slasher within the walls of the villa with an exciting exchange between what the camera shows and hides. The screening of Bodies Bodies Bodies will be preceded by the screening of the short film 'Moi Non Plus' by Olivier De Vos. This short film was selected by kortfilm.be and is about a close friendship between two queer friends that comes under tension due to blind narcissism.
