A Unique Perspective

As a director, you observe the world with a unique and personal vision. You’ll learn to view reality critically and creatively, building a strong dramaturgical foundation. Even in everyday moments, you’ll find inspiration. The program encourages you to tell surprising stories through humour, abstraction, and philosophical approaches. In Brussels, your vibrant and diverse study city, you’ll find plenty of societal context and inspiration to fuel your creativity. Your work will provoke, move, and challenge audiences.


From Idea to Reality

A director is the creative cornerstone in transforming an idea into a finished production. From day one of the program, you’ll explore every stage of filmmaking. You’ll develop scripts, refine your artistic vision, and oversee the entire process—from filming to post-production. You’ll grow into a creator who makes bold choices with knowledge, creativity, and confidence.


Filmmaking is a Collaborative Art

As a director, you inspire and unite a team of specialists. During the program, you’ll work closely with students from other disciplines, such as Writing, Production, Cinematography, Sound Design, and Editing. Together, you’ll create projects that highlight the power of collaboration. You’ll learn not only how to lead and motivate a team but also how to integrate their expertise into your vision to achieve a stronger final result.

First Year: Building the Foundations 

In your first year, you’ll explore the fundamentals of cinema and audiovisual techniques. Together with students from other disciplines, you’ll delve into film history, art, and culture. Introductory courses in directing, scriptwriting, and production will provide you with a solid starting point. The year culminates in a personally inspired artistic research project that showcases your growth.

Second Year: Deepening and Broadening

In your second year, you’ll refine your vision and critically reflect on society and the medium of film. Reflective courses like Film Analysis, Cultural Theory, and Film History will expand your cultural knowledge. In focused workshops, you’ll work on film and documentary projects, gaining experience in professional settings. The Transversal Workshop allows you to collaborate with students from other academic disciplines on artistic research in the inspiring environment of Brussels.

Third Year: Finding Your Voice 

In your final bachelor year, the focus shifts to deepening your craft. You’ll develop your unique style by working on specific film projects. You’ll question the filmmaker’s role and take on greater responsibility in productions. This year prepares you for a master’s program, where you’ll further refine and define your signature as a filmmaker.

Master’s Year: Your Story, Your Film

In the master’s phase, everything comes together. You’ll work on your own film project while attending inspiring masterclasses, often in an international context. Your master’s thesis gives you the freedom to realize your creative vision, whether it’s a documentary, fiction, or a hybrid form. The focus is on your unique voice and authorship, ensuring that your work is not only authentic but also leaves a lasting impression.

Admission Test

To start this programme, you must first pass an artistic admission test. The admission test consists of three parts: a dossier, an intake or selection interview and a workshop week.
