Versatility in Sound 

For an audio creator, it all starts with listening—then comes experimentation. In this program, you’ll learn to uncover great stories, research them, and bring them to life. You’ll delve into recording and editing, and you’ll learn to use your voice as a powerful instrument. Combining artistic and technical skills, you’ll explore the fascinating medium of radio in all its forms.


Stories That Resonate

Radio is all about storytelling through sound. You’ll sharpen your ear to the world around you and gain the tools to construct and convey narratives. The program teaches you everything from concept development and editorial work to research, voice technique, and technical production. You’ll become an independent, socially aware audio creator capable of turning your vision into captivating stories. 


Beyond Radio

As an audio maker, you won’t be confined to just one format. At your own radio station, XL AIR, you’ll experiment with both traditional and innovative radio formats. You’ll create audio documentaries, radio fiction, programs, or more abstract formats like soundscapes and audio art. You’ll apply your skills in various ways, from radio advertising to sound installations and everything in between. This program challenges you to push boundaries and develop your unique style..

Our lecturers are deeply rooted in the industry. They’ll teach you the ins and outs of the craft while helping you build a professional network. Through masterclasses, you’ll meet international creators, and internships provide hands-on work experience. You’ll graduate prepared for a career where you can truly make a difference as an audio maker.

First Year: Laying the Foundations 

In your first year, you’ll build the skills to become a versatile audio maker. You’ll learn to listen and write, discover how to optimize your voice, and make the radio studio your second home. You’ll venture into the field for reportage, acquire recording and editing techniques, and lay the groundwork for your own style. A broad social and cultural foundation is provided through courses like Art, Culture, and Music History.

Second Year: Broadening Horizons 

In the second year, you’ll explore the many facets of narrative audio. You’ll develop and produce original program ideas, create documentaries, and experiment with audio fiction. Lessons in sound art encourage you to work creatively with sound, pushing boundaries and discovering new possibilities. In the Transversal Workshop, you’ll collaborate with RITCS students from other programs on artistic research in the vibrant setting of Brussels.

Third Year: Experimenting and Deepening 

The third year focuses on experimentation and deepening your craft. You’ll broaden your social perspective and delve into cultural, philosophical, and political themes. During three intensive workshops, you’ll work with mentors on artistic projects. At the same time, you’ll refine your technical skills and explore new possibilities through electives such as advertising, presentation, sound editing, music creation, and prison radio.

Master’s Year: Charting Your Own Path

In the master’s year, your Individual Artistic Research takes center stage. You’ll continue to grow as an independent, socially aware, and artistically developed audio maker. Learn from international creators, gain work experience through internships, and attend masterclasses in audio documentary, audio fiction, sound art, or sound design. You’ll also learn how to organize yourself professionally as a freelance audio maker.
By the end of your studies, you’ll create bold and relevant works that leave a lasting impact on listeners.

Shortened Track

If you already hold a relevant bachelor's or master's degree and have experience in radio, audio, or podcasting, you can take part in the admission tests for a shortened programme.If you pass, we will work together to design an individual study plan of approximately 60 credits, tailored to your background, interests, and ambitions. This condensed programme lasts one year, after which you can proceed to the master’s programme.

XL AIR

Gaining experience is key, and the programme has created its own practical platform to support this. XL AIR is a Brussels-based student radio station located in the basement of RITCS. On this internet radio platform, students hone their skills by taking turns as technicians, presenters, producers, interviewers, editors, reporters, or handling promotion and social media. As a research project, it also serves as a lab for exploring new formats and experimenting with the possibilities of the medium.

Admission Test

To start this programme, you must first pass an artistic admission test. The admission test consists of three parts: a dossier, an intake or selection interview and a workshop week.
