Drama - Directing & Writing
Are you drawn to boundary-pushing theatre? In the Drama - Directing & Writing programme, you’ll craft compelling stories and develop your voice as a director or artist. Our Bachelor is in Dutch; the international Master’s (B2 English) focuses on artistic growth. Limited MA places are available for external candidates, after a one-year preparatory Bachelor course (a basic knowledge of Dutch is recommended).
Your artistic voice
Theatre-making is both thinking and doing. Through intensive workshops and research, you’ll develop your artistic language. By delving deep into theatre traditions and contemporary contexts, you’ll experiment with text, imagery, movement, and multimedia. You’ll explore how existing texts can inspire you, and how to create your own dramaturgy and writing style. Step by step, you’ll build a unique artistic universe that reflects your vision.
Engaging with today and tomorrow
How do you create theatre that’s relevant in a diverse, urban, and digital world? Can we still make Shakespeare urgent? How does theatre connect with sustainability, inclusivity, or a sense of community? Throughout this programme, you’ll reflect on today’s pressing issues and translate them into captivating, thought-provoking performances. You’ll discover how theatre can become a space that moves, challenges, or inspires its audience.
Collaboration in practice
The most valuable lessons happen on the rehearsal floor. In multiple workshops, you’ll bring your ideas and skills into practice. You’ll collaborate with students of Acting, Technical Theatre Design, and Production Management to create innovative projects. Performing your work for external audiences will teach you what it means to bring a production to life as a team. You’ll be coached by renowned theatre professionals who will challenge you to realise your full potential.
Leading and inspiring
You’ll grow into a theatre-maker who leads, inspires, and coaches while boldly exploring new frontiers. You’ll learn how to turn your vision into a collective project and foster collaboration. This programme challenges you to develop a lasting artistic identity, preparing you for a multifaceted and impactful career in theatre. You’ll set the course, working with your team to create work that resonates.
