De film verbeeldt zowel de individuele als collectieve herinneringen uit de periode waarin Wilczynski opgroeide: de jaren 60 en 70 van de 20ste eeuw in de industriële Poolse stad Lodz. Literaire personages, striphelden, familieleden en vrienden dwalen door dit sombere labyrint, troosten de hoofdpersoon en trotseren duisternis en vergetelheid.
De held van Kill It and Leave This Town ontvlucht de werkelijkheid en de wanhoop nadat hij zijn geliefden heeft verloren en verbergt zich in een veilig land van herinneringen. Daar staat de tijd stil en leven zijn dierbaren nog. Doorheen de jaren groeit er een stad in zijn herinneringen en op een dag komen zijn literaire helden en cartoonjeugdidolen er onuitgenodigd tot leven. Wanneer onze held ontdekt dat zijn idolen oud geworden zijn en dat eeuwige jeugd niet bestaat, besluit hij terug te keren naar de realiteit.
Tadeusz Nalepa’s verrassend energetische rock score wordt samen met de monochromatische beelden in een psychotropische trip gegoten. Maar meer dan wat anders, voelt Kill it And Leave This Town aan als een emotionele ervaring die doet stilstaan bij de absurditeit van het leven.

English: Kill It and Leave This Town sprang from the mind of Polish artist Mariusz Wilczynski. The result is an animated psychological horror film, which balances bizarrely between the devastatingly personal and the strangely grotesque.
The film depicts simultaneously the individual and collective memories of the period Wilczynski grew up in: the 1960s and 1970s in Lodz, an industrial city in Poland. Literary characters, comic book heroes, family members and friends dwell in this somber labyrinth, comforting the main character and besting darkness and oblivion.
The hero of Kill It and Leave This Town is fleeing from reality and despair after losing his loved ones, and hides in a safe land of memory. There, time stands still and his loved ones are still alive. Through the years, he builds a city out of his memories. One day, his literary and comic book heroes spring to life there as well. When our main character learns that his idols grew old, too, and that eternal youth is a folly, he decides to turn back to reality.
Tadeusz Nalepa’s surprisingly energetic rock score combines with the monochromatic imagery of the film, creating a psychotropical trip. But moreso than anything else, Kill It and Leave This Town feels like an emotional experience, which causes one to take a beat and realize the absurdity of life.
