Hadewijch Vanhaverbeke and Tom Dupont will discuss in this session the fact of working on projects within the prison context, together with colleague-artists and RITCS students. What are their experiences so far and what is important for future projects?
Tom Dupont is currently working in the prison of Oudenaarde and Hadewijch Vanhaverbeke is in full preparation to start in the new prison of Haren. Both invite students of RITCS to work together with the inmates. Each with their own medium. In this way they try to create a sanctuary within the walls of the prison.
Tom Dupont is a (freelance) screenwriter, playwright and drama teacher at RITCS. He directed the social-artistic project of Theater Antigone for eight years, and he also made numerous other productions there. For Bronks and Studio Orka, among others, he created several youth performances. He co-wrote the film scripts of Cargo and Offline and the fiction series Albatros and Grond. Social problems and complex family relationships are a recurring theme in his work, which is often described as accessible, tragicomic and absurd.
Hadewijch Vanhaverbeke is a radio and documentary maker. Since 2017, she has been a training assistant in the radio program at RITCS, where she also teaches radio documentary.

Samen met andere kunstenaars en RITCS-studenten gaan Hadewijch Vanhaverbeke en Tom Dupont in gesprek over werken binnen de gevangeniscontext. Wat zijn hun ervaringen tot nu toe en wat is belangrijk om mee te nemen in de toekomst?
Tom Dupont is op dit moment actief in de gevangenis van Oudenaarde en Hadewijch Vanhaverbeke is in volle voorbereiding om van start te gaan in de nieuwe gevangenis van Haren. Beide docenten nodigen studenten van het RITCS uit om samen met de gedetineerden aan de slag te gaan. Elk met hun eigen medium. Zo proberen zij een vrijplaats te creëren binnen de muren van de gevangenis.
Tom Dupont is (freelance) scenarist, theatermaker en dramadocent bij RITCS. Hij leidde acht jaar lang het sociaal-artistieke project van Theater Antigone, en maakte er ook tal van andere producties. Voor o.a. Bronks en Studio Orka creëerde hij verschillende jeugdvoorstellingen. Hij schreef mee aan de filmscenario’s van Cargo en Offline en aan de fictieseries Albatros en Grond. Maatschappelijke problemen en complexe familiebanden zijn een terugkerend thema in zijn werk, dat vaak omschreven wordt als toegankelijk, tragikomisch en absurd.
Hadewijch Vanhaverbeke is radio- en documentairemaakster. Sinds 2017 is ze opleidingsassistent van de radio-opleiding van het RITCS, waar ze ook radiodocumentaire doceert.
