The End of Fantasy versus the Fantasy of the End I Het einde van de Fantasie versus de Fantasie van het einde - Lezing door Alenka Zupančič

  • FUTURE NARRATIVES

ENG

One of the recurring fantasies related to late capitalism is undoubtedly the fantasy of the End. To be sure, the fantasy of the End also appears outside, and prior to the capitalist world order, but it could be instructive to look at the way it is structured by capitalism, as well as to look at the shifts that occurred and still occur in this structuring. What is the real that the fantasy of the End is obfuscating? On the other hand, the End is not always a fantasy, it can be something very real. In the lecture we will discuss different aspects of this question, also with the help of the movies Don’t look up (Adam McKay, 2021) and Melancholia (Lars von Trier, 2011).

Alenka Zupančič is a Slovene philosopher and social theorist. She works as Research Councilor at the Institute of Philosophy, Scientific Research Center of the Slovene Academy of Sciences.

Odd One In: On Comedy (2007) en What Is Sex? (2017). Voorjaar 2023 verschijnt Let Them Rot: Antigone’s Parallax bij Fordham University Press.
